Thought-Fox

Winner of Music Network's Young Musicwide Award for 2010-2013, Thought-Fox led by vocalist and composer Lauren Kinsella, featured pianist Tom Gibbs, trombonist Colm O’Hara, bassist Mick Coady and drummer Simon Roth. My Guess was released on Diatribe Records in 2013 to critical acclaim. A remix of the album entitled Thought-Tronix was later released featuring Irish electronic artists including Linda Buckley and Judith Ring.

“In a short time, the Irish singer has garnered glowing praise for her voice—a thing of rare beauty—and for her very personal improvisational style. The singer’s improvisation is real over-the-cliff stuff—fearless, devoid of cliché and striving for unexplored territory. A modernist, Kinsella is pushing vocal improvisation into new areas, and after a century of little movement in scat, such risk is refreshing.”

-Ian Patterson  All About Jazz

“There’s a very approving whisper going around jazz circles – deservedly – and it’s about Lauren Kinsella.”

-Max Reinhardt  BBC Radio 3

“This gifted young singer has been likened to Abbey Lincoln, Annette Peacock and Björk – but on this evidence, Norma Winstone and the Norwegian improv singer Sidsel Endresen are fitting comparisons too.”

-John Fordham, The Guardian
